Short on time? Local Tibet Travel Agency Takes Foreign Travelers to See Tibetan Culture on a New 4 Day Tour in Lhasa

For the upcoming travel season, Tibet travel agency (tibetctrip.com) provides an opportunity for travelers on a tight schedule to witness culture on tour in Tibet. In just four days it is possible to visit some of Tibets most famous cultural sites, sample some Tibetan food, and then move onto to another destination such as China or Nepal. Frequently travelers find themselves with a whole list of places to visit and little time. Whether it be a brief Tibet holiday or part of a much longer adventure, a four day visit to Lhasa can be perfect for those on a schedule.

Whether coming from China or going from Kathmandu to Lhasa, a typical four-day itinerary would look like this:

Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa. Guides will meet groups at the train station or airport and accompany them to Lhasa for rest and acclimatization. Once checked in to a hotel, some light walking and exploring can be a great way to acclimatize to the altitude. Be sure to drink lots of water.

Day 2: Guided sightseeing in Lhasa. Tourists can visit Jokhang Temple and Potala Palace. These places are among the most critically important cultural assets of the Tibetan people and are sure to be the highlight of any culture tour in Tibet. After, practice your bargaining skills in the winding pathways of Barkhor Bazaar.

Day 3: More guided sightseeing in Lhasa. After breakfast groups will head to west Lhasa to tour Drepung Monastery, which once housed over 10,000 monks. In the afternoon, catch the famous debating monks at Sera Monastery.

Day 4: Many travelers like to do a bit more exploring before its time to head to the airport. The groups guide will see them off at the airport.

The amount of ground that can be covered in four days is surprising. Located in the outskirts of Lhasa, the famous debating monks of Sera Monastery can be seen debating most afternoons. A Tibetan guide will be able to explain the significance of the debate topics and the rules and procedures by which they are carried out. The sprawling Drepung Monastery was at one time the largest monastery in the world and functioned as a place of learning for Tibetan Buddhist monks.

Potala Palace, former residence of the present and many past Dalai Lamas, is certainly an architectural wonder. Sitting atop a hill, this mammoth structure towers over Lhasa and provides incredible views. Visitors will walk where previous Dalai Lamas have walked and see their final resting places among countless cultural treasures. Potala palace is nothing short of enchanting. Jokhang Temple, just a stone throw away, houses the only known image of the Shakyamuni Buddha Siddhartha Gautama. These destinations are among the best Tibet has to offer.

Even just visiting Lhasa in Tibet can be an incredibly worthwhile use of limited travel time. This four-day tour gives travelers the opportunity to learn about Tibetan culture while still leaving time to visit other awe inspiring places such as China or Nepal, a travel agent can easily extend a tour to include some of these destinations. For those on a short holiday, Lhasa-Gonggar Airport connects to several nearby major cities in China making it easy to catch a flight home.
