J.C. Penney Shares Slip
Despite the sharp rise in the broad market, shares of retailer J.C. Penney slipped in Tuesday's trading session. The stock closed 0.96% lower at $19.61 on volume of 4.87 million. J.C. Penney's shares had struggled in 2012 as the company's financial performance deteriorated. The stock has been essentially flat this year, even as the S&P 500 has climbed 7.33%. The stock is still trading above its 50-day moving average though, which is a bullish signal. J.C. Penney's shares have been struggling to break through $20 resistance level in the last few trading sessions. The stock currently has strong support at around $19. Macy's Shares Rise Sharply
Macy's shares rose sharply on Tuesday. The stock rose 3.35% to finish the day at $40.43 on above average volume of 5.81 million. The sharp rise on significant volume suggests that market sentiment has turned bullish on Macy's. The bullish trend is further confirmed by the MACD chart. The stock's MACD has just moved above the signal line. The stock is also trading above its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Year-to-date, shares have gained 3.61%, underperforming the S&P 500. Kohl's Shares Rise Marginally
Kohl's shares rose marginally in Tuesday's trading session. The stock hit an intra-day high of $46.84 before finishing the day 0.30% higher at $46.48 on above average volume of 3.17 million. Kohl's shares have had an excellent run this year, gaining more than 8%. The stock is currently trading above its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, which is a bullish signal.
