QTS to Work with the Environmental Defense Fund in its Largest Season of Climate Corps Program

QTS (Quality Technology Services), one of the nations leading providers of data center facilities and managed services, will again participate in the Environmental Defense Funds (EDF) Climate Corps Program to further drive energy efficiency in its 12 state-of-the-art facilities. This year marks QTS third time participating in the program.

This summer, QTS will host Kevin Kuo of the University of Michigan at its Atlanta Metro Data Center, one of the largest data centers in the world. The companys participation in the sixth season of the program will be supervised by Sukrit Sehgal, director, sustainability and recoveries QTS. Sehgal was associated with the program at the QTS Atlanta Metro and Suwanee data centers before being hired full time by QTS.

The EDFs Climate Corps Program places specially-trained MBA and MPA students in participating organizations to identify opportunities for saving energy, money and the environment. QTS is among 106 leading organizations participating in 2013.

Last year, QTS launched its Sustainability and Recoveries Group, which focuses on energy efficiency, recycling, responsible resource management and strategic sourcing. Since the group was established, QTS has recycled more than six million pounds of industrial materials including copper, aluminum, steel, plastic and concrete at its Atlanta, Jersey City, Richmond and Santa Clara data centers. In 2012 the company announced a $10 million multi-year commitment to energy efficiency enhancements, which the Sustainability and Recoveries Group continues today.

I am fortunate to work for a company that strives to be at the forefront of industry sustainability practices by participating in programs like EDFs Climate Corps, said Sehgal. It will be exciting to lead a program I was once a fellow of and to see what new energy and cost-saving opportunities Kuo identifies this year for QTS.

Background
EDF Climate Corps matches trained students from leading business schools with companies to develop practical, actionable energy efficiency plans. Since the program began in 2008, Climate Corps fellows have identified $1.2 billion in potential savings for participating organizations, finding an average of $1 million in savings at each one. New participants such as Apple, Colgate-Palmolive and General Motors will join returning hosts including Facebook and PepsiCo. In return, the students have received invaluable experiences and the opportunity to show what they can do where it really counts -- at the bottom line.
