Guinness World Records Recognizes Famous Ironman Poker Challenge

The Guinness Book of World Records has long been recognized as one of the worlds premiere recordkeeping publication, with coverage of events both famous and obscure in order to keep track of the limits humanity has reached. Now, the state of Delaware has become home to one of the newest records accepted into the books: the Longest Continuous Poker Tournament, with the record currently being held by the Ironman Poker Challenge.

In the summer of 2012, at 12:36 A.M., the Ironman Poker Challenge concluded a set of games that lasted for 36 hours, 34 minutes and 11 seconds. The event ran from beginning to end with no breaks, and 192 participants sat down to compete in this grueling test of stamina and card-playing skill. Three of the players lasted until the last hour of the game, when the pool of prize money had grown to $100,608 dollars. Peter Konas, visiting from the Czech Republic to take part in this internationally-recognized game, took home $27,160 as the champion.

As with many of the events that are recognizes by Guinness, the event was recorded in its entirety for future generations to watch. Delaware Gaming Enforcement, one of the major legal groups involved with gambling in the state, handled the recordings and all documentation for submission to Guinness. Upon review and acceptance of the information provided, the world record was made official.

The Senior Vice President of Slots & Marketing for Delaware Park, Andy Gomeringer, noted, "We are exceptionally proud to be the home of an event that has made world history. The Ironman Poker Challenge attracts outstanding and dedicated players, and we are very pleased that Guinness has recognized the stamina and caliber of our playersand the Delaware Park staff that supports them."
